Boar Update January '98

Southern California

Spring is coming: Time to think about wild pigs.

Once again the hunting seasons for most big and small game animals are almost over. Time to think wild pigs again.

As a reader of "Wild Boar in California - Where and How to Hunt Them" you are familiar with the wild boar hunts in our State and with the hunting and location updates published more or less regularly on this page.

What's new?

We found a nice map showing where (and how many) wild boar were harvested between 1992 and 1996 in California.

We also found two more hunting ranches for wild pigs and other big game animals within reasonable driving distance of Southern California. And of course, the Big Horn Ranch is still offering hunts for feral and wild Russian boar as well as big horn sheep. As owner Chuck Wagner told us they have now eliminated hunting rifles completely. Only shotguns and bow and arrow are allowed at this time. Too bad that this conveniently located ranch will inevitably be overtaken by urban sprawl and forced to close. Enjoy it while it still lasts. By the way, access fees and fees for successful hunts have also increased.
